Oliver Naumann was born in Rüsselsheim, Germany in 1984. His formal musical training began at the Peter Cornelius Conservatorium in Mainz, Germany where he attended the pre-college jazz program on his instrument of choice, the saxophone.
Continuing his studies at the renowned Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands, he received a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance and music education. He then followed up with postgraduate work at SUNY Purchase, NY and The City College of New York, NY, studying under the tutelage of Dick Oatts, Jon Gordon, Jim Rotondi, and John Patitucci, among others.
After relocating to Mainz, Germany he completed a Master of Music degree at the Johannes Gutenberg University and started freelancing as a music editor while pursuing a career as a composer and performer.
Having been awarded several composition grants in recent years, his latest collaboration with the Goethe Institut Residency Abroad program provided him with the opportunity to travel to Zamora, Spain and create new works on location.
Oliver Naumann wurde 1984 in Rüsselsheim geboren. Während der Schulzeit absolvierte er eine studienvorbereitende Ausbildung am Peter-Kornelius-Conservatorium in Mainz und trat als aktives Mitglied des Landesjugenjazzorchesters Rheinland-Pfalz bei Konzerten und Festivals im In- und Ausland auf.
Er studierte Jazz Performance am Conservatorium van Amsterdam, am Purchase College New York, und am City College of New York. Zu seinen Lehrern am Instrument zählen u.a. Dick Oatts, Jon Gordon, Jim Rotondi und John Patitucci. Seinen Mastertitel erhielt er an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz.
Aktuell umfassen seine musikalischen Aktivitäten ein breitgefächertes Spektrum; dabei stehen dem Saxophon auch das Komponieren und Arrangieren im Mittelpunkt. Als Freelancer arbeitet er regelmäßig mit Dozenten, Autoren und Verlagshäusern zusammen.
Er kann auf eine Reihe von Kompositionsaufträgen und Projektstipendien sowie mehrere Kollaborationen mit dem Musikfonds e.V. und dem Residency Abroad Programm des Goethe-Instituts zurückschauen, welches ihm zuletzt die Möglichkeit verlieh nach Zamora (Spanien) zu reisen und vor Ort neue Kompositionen zu erstellen.
